A Christian hybrid learning environment that comes alongside homeschool families to support students in grades 7–12 with academic excellence, qualified instructors, and a community that builds character.
No hard sell. No mass mailing list. Just a real conversation about your family's homeschooling journey and whether Highland Academy is the right fit for your student.
Highland Academy provides instruction in the areas parents often find most challenging to tackle at home — so you stay in the driver's seat of your child's education while your student gets expert instruction, peer collaboration, and the structure they thrive in.
Students attend scheduled classes for the subjects you choose. Parents direct the rest of the school week at home.
Math, science, writing, foreign language, drama, critical thinking, and more — refreshed each semester based on family needs.
Each teacher is hand-selected for both subject mastery and the heart to inspire students through their high school years.
Age-appropriate community events that build friendships, character, and a peer group that lifts your student up.
Highland Academy was founded as a nonprofit in 2024 to unify middle school and high school age homeschoolers in the Hickory region. Our God-given mission is to come alongside families and empower them to homeschool successfully through graduation.
The collaborative learning environment we provide is competitive yet supportive — peers uplifting and encouraging one another in everything they do. In short, it's the atmosphere of a winning team. Read more on our about page or browse this semester's course catalog.
Most hybrid programs ask families to fit into their schedule. Highland Academy was built by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers — to fit alongside the way you already teach at home.
Every class, gathering, and family partnership is oriented around bringing glory to God and raising students of character.
We don't replace your homeschool — we strengthen it. Parents stay in the driver's seat, and Highland supports the subjects you'd rather not tackle alone.
A competitive-but-supportive culture where peers lift each other up. Students leave Highland prepared for college, trade school, or whatever God calls them to next.
Our enrollment process is intentionally personal — we want to know your family and make sure Highland is the right fit before you ever register for a course.
Submit one application per student. Quick form, no commitment — and you'll hear from us within 24 hours.
A relaxed conversation with academy leadership and your family — we walk through how the program works and answer every question.
After your interview, you pick the courses your student needs from our semester catalog — and you're part of the Highland family.
A glimpse of life inside Highland Academy classrooms and gatherings — where homeschool students grow academically and build the friendships that shape who they become.
Highland Academy is in its second year, and the families enrolling are telling us why the hybrid model works for them. As we collect public reviews from current Highland families, here's what we hear most often.
"My daughter is challenged here in ways I couldn't replicate at home — but she's still my daughter, not a test score. That's the balance we wanted." A culture that pushes students to grow without crushing the things that make homeschooling beautiful.
One of the hardest parts of homeschooling middle and high school is finding peers who share your values. Highland gives students a built-in community of Christian homeschoolers their own age, in their own region, working hard together.
Every teacher, every gathering, every academic decision is filtered through the question of how we raise students who love God and their neighbor. Faith isn't a class period — it's the foundation of how we approach every subject.
Math, science labs, foreign languages, drama — the subjects that intimidate even the most committed homeschool parent. Highland's instructors handle these with mastery so you can focus on what only you can teach.
Part-time, à la carte, no all-or-nothing commitment. You pick the days, the courses, and the level of involvement that fits your family's rhythm — and we structure everything around making that work.
We opened in Fall 2024 with about 60 students. We're now serving 117+ students from 81 families. That growth is families telling other families — the highest endorsement a school can earn.
These are the questions we hear most often during family interviews. If yours isn't here, reach out anytime — we'd rather have the conversation than leave you guessing.
